New EU strategy must help farmers move toward a more humane food system

The European Commission published its EU Strategy on Livestock with the goal of helping the animal agriculture sector become more crisis-resilient, globally competitive and sustainable. Humane World for Animals cautiously welcomes this Strategy, with its express commitments to advancing farmed animal welfare, but emphasises that it is crucial that intensive animal production does not carry on with business as usual.

Humane World for Animals launches “mandate for animals” petition in Germany

BERLIN—Humane World for Animals Germany (formerly called Humane Society International) today launched the “mandate for animals” campaign and petition. Through this effort, the animal protection organization is calling on the CDU-led Bundesregierung (Germany’s federal government) to  take citizens’ will on animal welfare seriously and translate their preferences and demands into concrete political action.
