KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—Humane World for Animals, formerly called the Humane Society of the United States, is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person or persons responsible for dumping a wounded, dying dog in a trash bag on the side of the road in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Young Williams Animal Center gave the following account: At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 14, city workers found a young, medium-size tan and black dog inside a trash bag at the intersection of Hall of Fame Drive and East Glenwood Avenue. He was near death and suffering from horrific wounds including punctures and a skull injury. The dog was ultimately humanely euthanized to alleviate his egregious suffering.
Securing the serious attention and engagement of law enforcement, prosecutors and residents in cases involving allegations of cruelty to animals is an essential step in protecting the whole community. The connection between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented. Studies show a correlation between animal cruelty and many other crimes, from narcotics and firearms violations to battery and sexual assault.
“The suffering this young dog endured is heartbreaking and deeply disturbing. No animal should ever experience this level of pain, neglect and cruelty,” said Jessica Hyder, Tennessee state director, Humane World for Animals. “We’re incredibly thankful Young Williams Animal Center is investigating this crime and hope the reward helps find the person or persons who committed this appalling act.”
