LONDON― Dame Judi Dench and a host of other high-profile British stars have written a letter urging Iceland to ban whale hunting, expressing their "deep sadness" that 18 fin whales have been slaughtered since this year’s hunt began last month. 

Cruel and illegal glue traps are still being sold in shops in England and by online retailers, including Amazon, ahead of Scotland’s ban coming into force on 1 July, according to new findings from Humane World for Animals UK (formerly Humane Society International).

Liberal Democrat MP and Environment spokesperson Sarah Dyke has led a cross‑party letter to the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) calling on the Government to bring forward mandatory, clear and consistent animal welfare labelling on meat products, and to strengthen enforcement against misleading claims in food marketing.

Humane World for Animals UK (formerly known as Humane Society International UK) will take its campaign against farrowing crates across Scotland from 11-14 April, bringing a life-size animatronic pig named Penny to towns and cities to highlight the harsh reality faced by tens of thousands of mother pigs on farms.
