Saved in 2017 by the Ark Watch Foundation and brought to our 1,120-acre Duchess Sanctuary in Oregon, Polly is our smallest resident—smaller even than her best pony friend, Trina. The two share a “pony paddock” with their own pint-size shelter and room to play. They enjoy walks with staff and volunteers, although Polly’s version of a walk is stopping to eat grass every two steps.
Polly is the queen of fuzzy, growing an exceptionally fluffy winter coat. She has a stereotypical pony attitude at times, bucking and squealing and doing pony zoomies around her pen, eliciting smiles from her human caretakers.
Recently diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, a common but not fatal metabolic condition in older equines, Polly continues to enjoy life’s small pleasures—especially the slice of apple each morning that cleverly hides her medication.
