As the runways are being set up for Fashion Weeks this February and March in New York, London, Milan and Paris, we, along with our fellow members of the global coalition the Fur Free Alliance, are launching the biggest anti-fur campaign of all time, urging millions of fur-free supporters across  dozens of countries to ask Max Mara to join modern competitors like Armani, Gucci, Valentino and Dolce&Gabbana in going fur-free.

Illinois is among the worst states when it comes to wildlife killing contests, with roughly 30 of these bloody events taking place each year that result in the cumulative deaths of thousands of coyotes, raccoons, foxes, squirrels and other animals. Following our 2023 investigation into a wildlife killing contest in Mendon, Illinois, this year the Illinois House of Representatives passed legislation (HB 2900) to prohibit the competitions. We’re now urging the Senate to do the same.

This week, we released footage from the most recent undercover investigation of five fur farms, this time in northern China, the source of most of the world’s fur. What we see is what we’ve come to expect with fur farm investigations: foxes, raccoon dogs and mink pacing their cages frantically, a repetitive behavior associated with mental decline, and filthy, feces-encrusted cages packed so close together that the risk of zoonotic disease spread was nearly palpable.

It is the height of absurdity: There’s widespread public awareness of the immense cruelty of fur factory farming. The fashion industry is just one of many industries inflicting harm on animals while putting terrible pressure on our already-stressed environment. And yet, animals are still being born just to be killed and then skinned on fur farms. Tens of millions of wild animals such as foxes, mink and raccoon dogs are currently confined in fur factory farms across the world.
