Humane World for Animals Poland

Hunting trophies from species protected under international law continue to be imported into Poland. Between 2014 and 2024, more than 1,500 such trophies were brought into the country, including brown bears, rhinoceroses, elephants, giraffes, and leopards. Poland also ranks among the world’s leading importers of trophies from captive-bred lions.

We are working to introduce a ban on the import into Poland of hunting trophies derived from endangered and threatened species.

We are working towards the introduction of an EU-wide ban on fur farming, to finally put an end to this cruel practice. Thanks to our efforts, such a ban has already been adopted in Romania and Poland. By amplifying the voice of these Member States, we are advocating for the extension of this ban across all EU countries. Our goal is for the European Union to become free of fur farms—places where millions of minks, foxes, and other animals suffer in cages and are killed solely for their fur.

Millions of animals still endure invasive and painful experiments every year, including across the European Union. We work with industry, research institutions, academia, and policymakers to replace these cruel tests with alternative, non-animal methods.

We also advocate for fewer animal tests for chemical safety assessment in the upcoming revision of EU legislation in this area—REACH regulation. Our goal is clear: faster progress toward modern, reliable, humane science that protects both animals and people.

We are strengthening law enforcement by recognizing the crucial role of police and other enforcement authorities in ensuring that animal protection laws are properly applied and that animals’ welfare continues to improve. Through professional, in depth training for police officers and prosecutors, we equip them with the knowledge and practical tools needed to identify offences, respond effectively, and support investigations. By building their capacity, we help turn animal protection laws into meaningful action on the ground.

Across the European Union, around 300 million farmed animals spend part or all of their lives in cages, often in harsh conditions, confined to extremely limited spaces and unable to express their natural behaviours. We advocate for a complete phase-out of cages, while also working to improve the welfare of pigs, hens, and other farmed animals. Through policy engagement and collaboration with stakeholders, we aim to drive meaningful, lasting change toward more humane farming systems.
