Lafayette Melton

An accomplished human resources professional who develops and implements our strategy to ensure a culture of inclusivity and belonging. 

Lafayette Melton is an accomplished human resources professional, diversity advocate and change agent. He is responsible for the development and implementation of Humane World for Animals’ strategy to ensure a culture of inclusivity and belonging. He also leads a team of talent acquisition specialists in designing and implementing strategies to attract top talent. He works collaboratively across all levels of the organization to align strategies with key organizational priorities and serves as a trusted resource for advice and counsel on matters pertaining to recruitment and inclusive work strategies.

Prior to joining us, Melton spent 14 years leading HR programs and guiding diversity initiatives for the Federal Highway Administration. There, he received numerous awards for his work, including the Administrator’s Award for Diversity and Inclusion and the U.S. Secretary of Transportation’s Award for EEO/Affirmative Action. He has also held a number of human resources roles in workforce planning, policy and staffing.

Melton received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Goucher College and a master’s degree in organizational communications from Bowie State University. During college, he was captain of the Goucher basketball team and still loves to work out. Born in Queens, New York, Melton is an avid Giants and Knicks fan. He is also a self-proclaimed movie buff.
