MEXICO CITY. – With the objective of establishing pathways and best practices that favor the actions of the Attorney General's Offices in the handling and investigation of cases of animal abuse, the Environmental Attorney General's Offices of the Central Region of the National Association of State Environmental Authorities, AC (ANAAE) and Humane World for Animals Mexico —formerly known as Humane Society International Mexico— held the international meeting on animal welfare law enforcement.
This meeting, aimed at public servants, academics, researchers, and the general public, fostered dialogue and the exchange of experiences to strengthen the exercise of their capacity for research, education and awareness, analysis of legislation, and to underscore the importance of collaboration with organized civil society in support of animal welfare.
Dr. Claudia Edwards, Director of Programs at Humane World for Animals, stated, "Activities like these clearly demonstrate the interest of government agencies and all of us committed to animal welfare in seeking to eradicate animal abuse. Collaborative efforts and a shared commitment to animal protection are increasingly common. It is a great achievement for our organization to be able to participate in an event that brings together prosecutors from various states committed to this cause."
Representatives from the Environmental and Territorial Planning Attorney General's Office of Mexico City (PAOT), the Attorney General's Office for Environmental Protection of the State of Mexico (PROPAEM), the Attorney General's Office for Environmental Protection of the State of Morelos (PROPAEM), the State Attorney General's Office for Environmental Protection of Aguascalientes (PROESPA), the Attorney General's Office for Environmental Protection of the State of Tlaxcala (PROPAET), and Humane World for Animals Mexico participated
During the event, 191 participants attended and learned about the behavior and needs of dogs and cats to identify opportunities for improvement in the procedures for handling cases of possible animal abuse, the advances and challenges in Mexican legislation, and the importance and role of individuals and animal protection associations as indispensable allies for rescued or injured animals, among other topics.
By participating in this meeting, government officials reaffirmed their commitment to the well-being and protection of animals, moving toward a more responsible and compassionate society for all living beings.
