LONDON—Gamers across the world have raised £546,000 for animal protection charity Humane World for Animals (formerly called Humane Society International) since 2020 by turning in-game actions into real-world impact.

Paws and Claws DLC is a downloadable content add-on for the action-RPG Children of Morta. It was created by Dead Mage and published by 11 bit studios. It introduces an animal shelter system, new pet-related gameplay boosts and hundreds of animations, with 100% of the profits donated to Humane World for Animals.

In the multi-platform game, players rescue animals on dungeon runs and care for them at the Bergson family home. For Humane World for Animals, this means helping fund global animal rescue, emergency response, sanctuary care, and campaigns to tackle systemic cruelty, such as the dog and cat meat trade.

The premise of the partnership is simple: you rescue animals in both the game and in real life by opting to donate to the charity when you make your purchase.

Safety at last for Cinnamon, saved from the dog meat industry

Children of Morta gamers have helped save dogs like Cinnamon, who was one of the many dogs trapped within the South Korean dog meat industry. When Humane World for Animals’ teams rescued her in May 2025, she was living among row after row of desperate dogs, caged, languishing and neglected. Despite everything she had been through, Cinnamon was trusting of the rescuers, eager for human contact and full of hope. She is now safe and living with a family of her own.

“Rare is it that I do an insta-buy, but this DLC was worth it. 100% to animal welfare charity and I get a bit of in-game boosts in an already pretty awesome and wholesome game? Yes, please.” -Children of Morta gamer

Virtual actions lead to real-life impact

The money raised since 2020 has supported Humane World for Animals’ vital programmes through:

  • Pet Rescue: £182,000 (228 dogs helped at £800 per dog) - supporting global rescues from dog meat farms or slaughterhouses across South Korea, Viet Nam, India, Indonesia and China; donations have covered rescue, veterinary care, behavioural therapy, transport and rehoming.
  • Animal Rescue from disasters: £182,000 (3,640 animals helped at £50 per animal) - supporting animal rescue and care for animals caught up in global emergencies including hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, wildfires and complex emergencies such as the war in Ukraine; donations have covered evacuation crates, emergency food, veterinary drugs and supplies, fuel for rescue vehicles and the tools to reinforce or rebuild shelters.
  • Animal sanctuary and pet shelter: £182,000 (669 sanctuary animals helped at £272 per animal) - supporting sanctuary and refuge care including daily feeding, veterinary treatment, habitat maintenance and lifelong care at our sanctuaries such as the Second Chance Chimpanzee Refuge in Liberia (home to dozens of former laboratory chimpanzees).

Paweł Miechowski, co-founder of 11 bit studios, says: “Games can surely be something more than just pure fun. This is how we see it at 11 bit studios. Children of Morta proves that with its brilliant Paws and Claws DLC with which we can help those who help innocent animals. We'll just keep doing that!”

Richard Amos, Humane World for Animals’ UK corporate partnerships programme manager, said: “Our partnership with 11 bit studios shows what's possible when business creativity and animal protection come together for strategic impact. By turning gameplay into real-world rescue, they've helped us save thousands of animals from cruelty and disaster zones and sustained the campaigning power we need to change the systems that harm animals. We can’t thank 11 bit studios and all the players enough. “

Humane World for Animals highlights that:

  • £10 provides food to help feed a rescued animal in crisis
  • £25 provides treats and toys for an animal sheltered during an emergency
  • £50 can provide a crate to evacuate a dog from a disaster zone
