Donating your car or other vehicle, such as a motorcycle, boat or RV, to charity is a notable act of generosity—one that can make a measurable difference for the charity and the beneficiaries of its mission. In the case of Humane World for Animals, formerly called the Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International, our vehicle donation program benefits animals around the world we are dedicated to protecting.
We are always grateful for the support we receive from all our constituents, whether it be a monetary donation (one-time or monthly), volunteering in some capacity, making a legacy gift in one’s will or donating material items such as real estate and vehicles.
How much tax credit do you get for donating a car?
The good news is that when donating a vehicle to us, you can claim the full amount that we receive from the sale of your vehicle. For a vehicle donation that sells for $500 or less, Cars Inc. sends a thank you letter which serves as the tax receipt form. Vehicles that sell for more than $500 receive a second acknowledgement shortly after the sale, along with the necessary IRS forms.
