Our campaign in the United Kingdom focuses on securing a ban on fur imports and sales. We also expose the sale of “fake faux fur”, work to convince brands and retailers to go-fur free, and highlight the cruelty of fur farming and trapping. Polling shows the vast majority of the British public shun animal fur and support a ban on fur imports.

Fur import and sales ban

We lead the FurFreeBritain campaign to end the import and sale of real fur. The United Kingdom banned fur farming in 2003, a world-leading decision at the time, it was much applauded and has since been replicated in over 20 countries worldwide. However, fur is still imported from countries overseas to be sold or re-exported. We believe that if fur is too cruel to be produced here, and it is, then it is too cruel to sell here. We want to see this double-standard ended and our campaign is supported by over two hundred Members of Parliament, from across the political spectrum. We recently handed-in a 1.5 million signature FurFreeBritain petition to the Prime Minister, and polling shows that 77% of the public support a ban on fur imports.

Help end fur cruelty

The UK banned fur farming as ‘unethical’ in 2000, but continues to allow fur to be imported and sold. Ask Prime Minister Starmer to stop outsourcing suffering.

Fake faux fur

We have researched and published many exposes of the sale of fake faux fur, where real animal fur is labelled as “faux” and sold to unsuspecting consumers—an animal welfare as well as consumer rights issue. We have highlighted this issue with legislators, educated retailers and consumer groups, and worked to protect the public from buying the very thing they were trying to avoid in the first place.

Investigations

We have conducted investigations into the cruelty of fur farming and trapping in numerous countries around the world, worked with experts to expose the fur industry’s carbon footprint, and shone a light on the public health risk related to zoonotic disease outbreaks on fur farms around the world.
