This month, we’re bringing you stories about how we’ve been changing the world for farmed animals. Fighting to decrease the cruelty billions of animals suffer and championing a more plant-forward world to reduce the devastating impacts of industrial animal agriculture that wreak havoc on the environment is, in our view, essential for creating the kind of compassionate world we envision.
In our first story, we showed how taking on fights for animals considered too impossible to succeed is exactly what we do—it is exactly who we are. And this is certainly true in our farm animal protection and plant-based work.
Then we brought you words from Karla Dumas, our vice president of farm animal protection here at Humane World for Animals in the U.S. Because Karla shares her home with several animals rescued from factory farming, such as Milo the pig, she brings a uniquely personal perspective to our work for farmed animals.
I want to emphasize one thing about farmed animal advocacy that will always be true. Everyone has a chance to make a difference for these animals every single day by choosing plant-based alternatives to animal products at breakfast, lunch and dinner. I hope these stories have inspired you to take action to better the world for farmed animals, and that’s why we’ve also created an e-book for everyone who wants to learn more and join this worthy cause.

As that video shows, the fight to change cruel systems for animals can take years and tremendous dedication. While we won our landmark Supreme Court defense of California’s Proposition 12, we continue to defend the law against underhanded efforts to roll it back or undercut its strength. This currently involves ensuring the defeat in the U.S. Congress of S. 1326, the Food Security and Farm Protection Act (a blatant rehash of the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression [EATS] Act), and any related legislation—one of our top priorities right now.
The Proposition 12 saga shows how changing the system for farmed animals is a complex and very long game, and we’re in it to end animal cruelty. Because we believe fundamentally that the greatest challenges to creating a more humane world can be met. But we cannot do it without you.
