Since joining our India team in 2012, Sengupta’s exceptional leadership, activism and subject matter expertise have been pivotal to our growth and impact in the country. During her tenure, she has successfully led policy changes, built partnerships with corporations and governments at the national and state levels and raised funds for India within the country and abroad.
Sengupta is recognized for her scientific and legal background as well as her leadership in the animal protection movement. She earned a master’s in science in biotechnology from Osmania University and completed the LL.M. (Professional) Diploma program at the National Law University in Delhi. She has served on government and scientific committees, including the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization. She is also a skilled trainer who has led animal law workshops for judges, law enforcement and advocates and has served as a guest faculty at universities and law schools.
Outside of work, Sengupta is passionate about psychology, movies and the feminist and anti-caste movements in India. She was featured in the book One Hundred & One Reasons to Get Out of Bed and has recently authored a children’s short story on animal rescue, Pommy and Tommy. Alok lives in Hyderabad with her husband, son, one adopted dog and two adopted cats.
