Crate Britain Tour

Help us ban cruel pig cages

Humane World for Animals is going on tour in August 2025! We’re hitting the road with our Crate Britain Tour to raise awareness about cruel mother pig cages (known as farrowing crates), engaging MPs and communities in areas with high levels of pig farming.

Over 200,000 mother pigs in the UK are forced to endure up to five weeks of extreme confinement in cages around the time they give birth. This means they can spend almost a quarter of their lives trapped in a space so small they can’t even turn around. They suffer both physically and mentally while caged, unable to carry out many of their natural behaviours or properly interact with their piglets.

Our polling shows that almost three-quarters of the British public haven’t heard of farrowing crates or know very little about them, so our life-size replica animatronic mother pig, Penny—sadly trapped in her cruel cage—will help us to show people across the country the conditions that pigs are enduring on British farms.

Our goal is for thousands of people to take action and urge politicians to act quickly to end this totally unnecessary suffering. 40% of farms are already crate-free, our campaign aims to make that 100%!
