How we attract and retain the best people to lead our work

We value our incredible people and we’re proud to pay our team fair, competitive wages.

Our compensation strategy is in line with that of other nonprofits of our size and scope, and it helps us attract and retain the most skilled, experienced and dedicated people to help stop animal cruelty and suffering for good.

How we determine fair pay and benefits

  • Independent oversight: Our board of directors, who serve as volunteers without pay, sets compensation for officers and executives.
  • Cost of living: We strive to pay a living wage so our staff can focus on ending animal cruelty without unnecessary financial stress.
  • Hiring strategy: Providing salaries and benefits comparable to other nonprofits helps us attract and keep a talented, committed team of experts.

We need great people to do great work to help animals. By offering fair pay and benefits, we can recruit and retain people capable of tackling the root causes of animal cruelty around the world.

Now and then, industry groups try to suggest that paying our team a living wage is a bad thing. False accusations about how much we compensate our employees are spread by groups such as Berman and Co., a corporate PR firm known for working with industries that make money from hurting animals, and the front groups it funds.
